The final product, a campaign outline on the Time to Grow UP campaign. These are screen grabs of the pages in the campaign book.

I attended COP15 as a International Youth Delegate of the International Youth Climate Movement in December, represented ECO Singapore as a Head of Creative and as an Asian Team Leader for Project Survival Media. My job was primarily in the realm of media/design/journalism where I covered news and events and update the ECO Singapore blog. [...]

I wanted the campaign title “TIME TO GROW UP” to be grown on walls, and if I can’t do so with my home-made moss, I decided to try other methods. One of which was to artificially transfer wild moss from the street to brickwalls. I have emailed the guys at guerrilla gardening for some possible [...]

So I embarked on creating my own moss paint =)
Speaking from experience, they have a very nice greeny grassy smell. I never really knew how moss smelt like, who would?? haha Mixing it with beer and yoghurt messed up the smell alot. And if like me, using strawberry yoghurt on several recipes created a strawberry [...]

After having done my research on HOW TO create moss graffiti, I was truly optimistic that I can make it too. As most of the websites have loads of pictures etc which show their successful creations. I also had a feeling that all these websites “copied” off each other as the recipe seemed copied & [...]

The ultimate goal of importing Vertical Gardens into London would be for environmental reasons as well as aesthetic ones. That being the case, it makes sense to look into existing ads with a ‘green’ feel to it. Be it colour ways, usage of organic material, playing with existing environments etc Here are some fine examples [...]

Stumbled upon this while doing my research and realized how apt this execution was for my project on vertical gardens.
In short, this medium is all about producing a special blend of moss paint which once painted onto surfaces, will grow into moss text or moss paintings. Sounds great in theory. And this would be great [...]

After working with the 3 fonts (Alba, Digital Kauno & Disco), I have found that Digital Kauno looks and works best as it is the most legible after being joint together. Also, the typeface was naturally cursive and any add-ons would look more natural. Here are some of the mock ups of the typeface, forming [...]

New font selections to replace the previous Rockwell Extra Bold font which was used in the visuals for the first crit (here & here) I chose these fonts as their alphabets have the largest potential to be joined with one another seamlessly without having to do too much alteration to the native design.
Alba
Digital Kauno

Bought this book from Magma called Stereographics: graphics in new dimenions.
In it are a quite a number of beautiful graphics which are tactile and 3D, transferring graphics from the computer screen into the real world.
Below are some examples which helped served as references to my final outcome, based on it’s medium, typography and presentation. I [...]

And so I carry on from the feedback given from the first crit (details) and I revisited my visual references for any possible newer outcome to avoid the ’swirly vines’ mixed with typography look. And took on the suggestions of making the campaign more tactile, organic, real grass & get your hands dirty.
I found [...]

More visuals where I played with colour schemes of the poster. I did not do any experimentation with the font as it was the closest sample of the original font used in the Garden for a Living London campaign. The font used was Rockwell Extra Bold. The font palette is shown below.

During the first DFA studio crit/feedback session, we presented our IMPORT/EXPORT ideas, campaign strategy/roll out and initial visuals to our project. I have decided on the campaign headline as ‘Time to Grow UP’ and below are some feedback received. The campaign strategy will be published in a separate post here.
Campaign strategy were all very well [...]

Here are my initial campaign proposal slides which I presented in the first DFA studio crit/feedback session, we presented our IMPORT/EXPORT ideas, campaign strategy/roll out and initial visuals to our project. I have decided on the campaign headline as ‘Time to Grow UP’ and below are some feedback received.

The following are more visual references from an assortment of artists and designers who have produced work which I find very related to the ‘Time to Grow UP’ campaign.
I find their work related to the theme of ‘Time to Grow UP’ with the use of imagery and typography to give a certain organic, grassy, green, [...]

Here are design references which I found while researching for ideas for the Vertical Garden campaign. I looked at designs which will fit in with the original ‘look and feel’ from the Garden for Living London campaign which I plan to tie in the Vertical Garden import idea with. As an add-on to the existing [...]

Here are some very relevant advice + quotes from a book I read – 60 Innovators shaping our creative future. It is an awesome book which I most likely would refer to time and time again for ideas and references. For now, I have found some quotes which are very relevant to the Vertical Gardens [...]

Vertical Gardens FAQ from all over the internet consolidated here =)
❧ From http://www.vertical-garden.net.au
A vertical garden FAQ posted by a Cannadian company Greenapplepie.
1. What is a Vertical Garden?
A living wall, also called a ‘green wall’ or a ‘vertical garden’, is a vertical surface filled with living, growing plant matter. There are two ways that plants can [...]

At the moment, there are a number of existing companies offering solutions to Vertical Gardening. In my research, they appear to be largely based in America and Austrailia despite the results from my initial research which showed the trend starting in France and catching on well in Japan. Also, there are many different terms created [...]

Here I look at alternative methods to Patrick Blanc’s methods of Vertical Gardening. A number of DIY gardening sites have been sprouting (sorry for the pun) on the internet and below are some which prove to be most useful. There are several methods to Vertical Gardening given below though not all of which will give [...]

How does Patrick Blanc create his Vertical Gardens and how what are the other DIY options available out there? In order to allow this vertical garden trend to catch on by the masses which is my aim for the campaign/project, it would be necessary to find out the complexities involved and if it were achievable [...]

The UK government unveils a new climate change map
Foreign secretary David Miliband, his brother, the energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband, and the government’s chief scientific advisor John Beddington describe what the world would be like after a 4C rise in temperature.

The Athenaeum Hotel in London was where award-winning artist and research scientist Patrick Blanc created his first Vertical Garden in the UK. It was part of a £7 million refurbishment. Having transformed concrete walls around the world into hanging gardens, from Paris to New York, Tokyo and Bangkok; The Athenaeum Hotel is his first venture [...]
